A Decade gone by...
A New Decade...
Let me begin this by wishing to the world a very happy new year.
A truly new year indeed. Quite a bit of happenings around the world give out this sense of being happy. What prompts this happiness. Is it that we, as a collective group, have just seen through a historical decade or is it that the events of this past decade have been so much different and trying that we are just jubilant in seeing it off all together and begin with a new start.
While one leading national newspaper has been promoting peace with our troubled neighbor! Other media channels have been out hunting cops with lesser morals in their line of duty. Let us talk of our own home some other time, but what actually has been the decade gone by for the globe, a decade where the world started with the fear of the Y2K bug and is now sitting on top of another supposed end, “2012”.
Little thoughts to grand revelations all of which lie on one particular date In history, 2012. What matters is just the same date. To put it in one historical term its a epiphany of sorts. Traditionally epiphany was the grand revelation of Christ's birth to the magi. In literature, epiphany is used by authors to state the grand revelations of the mystical nature of life in their lead protagonists.
But, what is the epiphany of the decade. Well, not much has changed in the world. Now there have been reams and reams of, not to forget gigabytes of, material of the progress made in the decade gone by. But, although there have been changes have they been for the good?
By a slight chance lets take a quick tour of some 'important' happenings of the world in the past decade.
Afghanistan and Iraq did have a distinct presence of uncle Sam, while nations of the world realized that China is still an engineering country with spectacular fireworks! The world of technology had a revolution which began with a prefix of 'i'. Sporting legends from all walks of life came and left but yet somewhere there seems to be a connection. Being a human came second to your religion and personal behavior. But, after all the world had its money tested against their own greed! The decade gone by and the one before that always seems to be connected despite all the above changes.
The decade before the first decade of the new millennium had some incidents similar to the above, Lets see what I can remember of them: Iraq had the presence of Uncle Sam thanks to their exploit in Kuwait (co-incidentally, the uncle's name was still BUSH!!), the Arab world rediscovered their engineering feats and had the most beautiful artificial things opened to the world(read a seven star hotel, not the Burg Khalifa), European capitals still had their fair share of the EU pie and the world was still looking toward the west.
Additions or deletions heading toward the epiphany of 2012, let us remember the more we change the more we stay the same. Boys will be boys, playing with their advanced toys, the rest of the world comes forth, while the first of the world wants to be still hold its fort!!!
