The other day...

The other day… Generally that is how the conversation begins. It was just a regular wait at the bus stop. A wait for the beautiful collection of, not buses, debris of metro work to clear a little space for a bus to pass ahead on the road. A conversation is always happening at any given BMTC bus stop at any given point of time. Either it is the always lost lover boys (lets be honest girls too) glued to their cell phones or those eccentric phones who flash their fancy gadgets to get some social respect (!!). Anyways, here is another one of those bus stop escapades in a non-disclosed (politically incorrect) bylined bus stop of Bangalore (or is it yet transforming to Bengalooru).

The other day (!!), I was standing at a bus stop in one of those major areas of Bangalore where you could actually see a mixture of quite a bit of people. Now, this being a major junction, the number of people and the frequency of buses were frantically high. Naturally, there were the regular buses to the swanky Volvos and Marco polo’s too vying for the attention of the common customer. There I was, one among the common customer, standing and craning my neck at every direction. Honestly, I was more interested in just looking at people around more than the fact of boarding the right bus.

Families stand out at bus stops! Quite literally at that as bus stops are usually inhabited by at least one dog. So there they were, a regular family of three, standing out of the bus stop. The small boy a bit mischievous started to discover the world around him. The mother started eying the boy, once, twice, thrice, a silent warning given, then she lunges forward (quite athletically, I must admit), gets the boy and starts with the most common rebuke of them all. No, twisting of the ear is just part of it. Blame the father. The poor guy, a meek spectator, head of the family, just to assert his position mumbles a few words and just gets the kid to his side.

Next comes the turn of the technologically driven, high class, peanut seller. How is he tech driven? I see that he has given the habit of borrowing those old newspapers; they were all the slips of the latest tech magazines in the market. How do I know they are latest? Well, a hungry neighbor of mine got a bunch of peanuts (surprisingly still payable in coins) and when done naturally throws the sheet right there (the enterprising ones usually make rockets and throw them at ….). The sheet carried one gadget’s description. Well, it happened to be a major the cell phone company ad not more than a month old in the market.

The bus stop had the regular ones too. The natural motley group of college guys playing a prank on one of their ‘dude’, eth silent girl next door whispering away on her cell phone, the small kids carrying loads of boulders (read school books) and the usual elders looking at all of these and still reminiscing their old beautiful Bangalore being spoiled by us…..

The list was yet to be completed but BMTC had other plans to cut short my experience. Mu bus shot past the maze of metro and finally made it to the bus stop. Despite boarding the bus, the show must go on, the circumstances were different on the bus for which I would have to say this again: The Other day…

  1. The other day - is a nice article! As I'd told you earlier, you've a different approach to write on different but so much heard topics! I don't think so anyone would write about their daily experiences! So, I can definitely categorize the article under realistic stuff as I too have experienced such funny, pleasant & usual scenes but have failed to write one! Coming to the style of writing; dude, you write better than me!
